The modern meeting is easier to setup and attend than ever it was before. However there are a few things we need to watch out for.
We need a decent connection and video takes more bandwidth so you can always agree to keep the camera off. Voice doesn’t need much bandwidth but it does need a quick response – a glitch in video can be ignored but speech rapidly becomes unintelligible if it breaks up.
Without body language it is very easy to misunderstand or be misunderstood – it’s better to speak in a straightforward fashion and to be clear than to be entertaining, charming and witty.
Zoom is a very popular tool for meetings it’s easy to setup and easy for others to join. The free version generously allows meetings of up to 40 minutes and, if you restart the same meeting, another 40 minutes. https://zoom.us
Teams feels for corporate and more constrained – it is much easier to use if everyone is in the same Microsoft 365 Tenant. It can control permissions, share chat channels, files and more. Session data is preserved between meetings and chats can go on all the time too. https://teams.microsoft.com/
